Week 6: Thank you for the rain!

What a welcome rain!  The weekend rain will really help bring on the abundance in our farm name.  I sincerely apologize to all campers and festival-goers, but the crops needed it.

This week on the farm we have been working on the delivery van, giving it a facelift and insulation job.  She will be cooled before loading, and the white paint will help keep it cool.  We are also hoping Kevin’s auto body skills will help keep the rust down to a dull roar for a few years.  I was able to get closer to the new white calf and now I think she’s a heifer.  Her white colour should keep her cool too.  The field crew has been working hard keeping up with most of the planting and weeding, along with harvest and marketing.

We got some welcome visitors one day.  Just when David was wondering if we’d get all the transplants planted, we got a visit from 7 strong young cooks!!  They rolled up their sleeves and helped get the field jobs done, then they took over the kitchen and made an amazing meal with all farm-produced food.  (Confession: we imported salt and pepper.)  What a boost for us!  Nothing is more satisfying than doing a bunch of planting, and then getting a big rain.

Many of you have been asking for the date of our first Open Farm Day.  It will be this Saturday, July 25 starting at 2 pm.  Please let Jen know if you plan to join us.  Directions to the farm are here.

Here are a few photos from the last week:
