Luna Moth

IMG_2259This week in the farm share, we expect to have strawberries from Bosveld’s Fruit Farm in Centreville, Annapolis Valley.  Vincent is picking specifically for us. We also expect to have a selection of the following vegetables: carrots, summer squash, lettuce, sweet turnips, chard, kale, radishes, green onions, beets, salad mix, garlic scapes, dill, and cilantro.

On Sunday morning I saw a large moth in the pasture as I was moving the fence for the laying hens.  The magical and elusive Luna Moth!  I’d only read about it in a novel, but I’ve never seen one before in real life.  Underneath those fabulous wings is a funny hairy white body.  And check out the antennae!

We were over the moon when it rained this afternoon.  I heard whoops and hallelujas in the yard when it really started to pour.  We haven’t seen rain since June 12.  Almost a whole month of hot, sunny weather, and a lot of irrigation.  On the walkie talkies, people were negotiating irrigation times.  So grateful!

Here are a few photos from the last week….
