In mid-August, the crickets start their song, and we know that late summer has officially begun.  Because of the unusually cold and wet June we had, our summer fruiting crops are just getting started.  This is about three weeks later than normal.  We harvested a few eggplants, tomatillos, and green peppers today.  Even though there was not a lot ready this week, all of the plants look healthy and loaded with young fruit and flowers.  I’m optimistic that we will have a good run of these crops over the next two months

We have picked a day for our Second Annual Farm Inspection Tour and Feast

Saturday, September 21.

Farm tours will begin at 1pm.  Food will be served at 5pm.  Cost is $20 for adults, $10 for 12 to 18 year olds, children under 12 are free.  If you want to join us, please email quickly to reserve a spot.

This is a chance for our friends and members to come out for an in-depth tour of the farm and enjoy a farm meal under our giant oak trees if the weather is good, or in the community hall if it is raining.

We are dreaming up the menu, and getting helping hands lined up for the considerable work involved.  If you are interested in joining us the day before or the morning of the meal for some serious vegetable chopping,  please let us know.

Adriana visited the farm for a week.  She sang everywhere she went.  What a delight!


WattsupSolar has started installing racks on the south side of the barn roof for solar panels.  We took advantage of the incentive program from Efficiency NS.

These raised beds have really been productive, despite weather challenges.  A little compost helps!


These leeks were planted May 11 at the planting party.  Thanks to everyone who helped with planting, weeding, bed prep, irrigation, mowing, and weeding again.  We should be able to harvest leeks for a few months.  Bring on the creamy flavour!  Photo Dani Miller
