Locally-grown ginger

I had no idea how good fresh ginger is!  We grew some this year in the greenhouse as an experiment.  I harvested about 15 lbs this fall, after planting it the previous March.  I tried to leave it to grow as long as possible, but it got zapped by cold weather, inside the greenhouse, in November.  It’s very sensitive.  This year I’ll be planting lots more.  If you want to get in on the ginger action,  you can sign up for our Produce Pack or contact us for a special order.

It is so beautiful!  Harvested fresh, it doesn’t need to be peeled.  The whole plant has an intoxicating fresh-hot smell. The tops, and roots can be used in tea along with honey and locally grown lemon.  The lemons are another story.  Stay tuned!

  1. Often thought about trying this out. I’ve seen it done with ease in warmer climates, but you’re the first of around here I’ve seen try it. I’m located in New Brunswick, perhaps I’ll give this a try!
