There will be two new items in the pack this week: carrots and baby zucchini!
We had an amazing day for the work party. What great workers! Both David and I feel soaked in grace and blessings. The morning started with Bernard, Alice, and Alice’s parents (who just arrived from Quebec) going to the weir in Bramber to experience the fish harvest at low tide. They came back with fresh fish and squid, which was pretty exciting!
Then customers from Bedford, Victoria Park, and Fleming Heights showed up and dug right in to the work. They lifted off row cover from most of the crops in the Fox Field, gathered the hoops, and pulled weeds from around the crop plants. The Fox Field was transformed! Before, it was almost completely covered with white row cover to keep the plants warm. But now, hopefully, it is warm enough for them to grow and thrive without their blanket on. We finally got to see what everything looked like. It was very encouraging.
Bernard took on the cooking of lunch, offering shad, salads, and roasted potatoes along with sous-chef Sidonie. David cooked up some calamari from the squid (which had a little fish in its stomach!). Everything was so fresh!! We set up under the oak tree where there was a nice little breeze for all the hot workers. To top it off, Victoria came out with chocolate cookies that knocked our socks off! Everyone helped and the joy was palpable. Thanks to everyone who contributed, especially our interns.
Here are some photos from the farm work day and the week:

After lunch a bunch of folks went back out to the field to get some more work done. Sarah trellised tomatoes with a big smile on her face the whole time.

They picked up all the heavy row bags used to hold down the row cover. This is a small sample. I don’t know why people go to the gym when they could lift weights on the farm!
