This week in the pack we expect to have tomatoes, leeks, beans, potatoes, peppers, hot peppers, chard/kale/beets, blueberries.
This week on the farm was our last with Bernard and Alice. They are leaving Sun Aug 30 for new adventures, and we wish them both the best. If you know anyone who is interested in learning about farming/market gardening, we will be hiring for a fall position.
The Hope Blooms group from north-end Halifax visited the farm on Friday. We were busy getting ready for Saturday market, but how could we say no?? We’d met Jessie Jollymore when she needed help setting up their first greenhouse on Brunswick St in 2011. We’d watched, and cried, when they were awarded a huge grant on Dragon’s Den. We’d donated vegetables for people to sample their salad dressing at Seaport Market. We’d seen the shiny and hopeful faces of the kids as they explained their business. We were stoked! As soon as the kids got off the bus, they ran around laughing and exploring. I thought, oh man, THAT is the sound of joy.
Jessie does not let mountains get in her way! She has a lot of faith and determination to gather resources so these kids can learn, gain confidence, and help each other out. When we were out in the field with the kids of different ages, she exclaimed “I can’t help but feel this is straight from God!”
