Farm News!

In 2016, David and I promised each other we wouldn’t make any major changes to the CSA.  But alas!  Fate has intervened to rock the boat, and we are forced to make some changes.  Hopefully they will be positive for most of you.

We are going to keep the full choice display that was so popular at Victoria Park in 2016.  The location will be changed to 2867 Isleville St in North-End Halifax.  It has several advantages.  The biggest, for us, is that it is most likely to be permanent for at least 5 years.  Also, it is close to the McKay Bridge and Bedford Highway.  We will have an indoor space with a huge garage door open to the sunshine.  The display will be out of the wind and rain.  There will be lots of parking!

Those advantages are pretty good.  But we’re also hooking up with Afishionado, who sells sustainable seafood, and Holdanca Farm (Duynisveld family) who sells pastured meats and eggs.  We will have all these healthy, local foods in one place and we’re psyched to be working with other producers co-operatively.

We will only have the one pick up location at 2867 Isleville St. People can band together and pick up shares for their neighbours in outlying areas if they want to take on that responsibility.

Pick up times will be from 11am to 7pm on Thursdays, June 1 to October 27 (22 weeks).

Large shares are $600, small shares are $450 for the season, to be paid by May 1. If this is not practical, we offer a payment plan of three equal payments on May 1, July 1, and September 1.

If you are going to miss a week’s pick up, we suggest you offer it to a friend or relative to pick up.  Or we can arrange to donate it to people in need for you.

We will only give refunds if you let us know ahead that you want to cancel for the rest of the season.  The payment is for a season of produce.  The value will change week to week, generally increasing as the season progresses.

What do I get?

The vegetables are all from Abundant Acres and are certified organic.  The fruit comes from our farm or local farms near us.  We buy no-spray or low-spray fruit whenever possible.  Rhubarb, strawberries, cherries, blueberries, melons, apples, and pears are expected to be included this year.

Once you sign upwe will keep you informed via our weekly newsletter with recipes, starting in June.

We have always wanted the farm to be a place where people from all walks of life can share life’s simple pleasures of good food and community.  We want this relationship to be mutually beneficial, providing connection to the land, the farmers that work it, and the ever-changing abundance it brings forth.

We hope this vision resonates with you.  We appreciate each one of you who has supported us so far, and look forward to many more years of sharing the farm with you.

    • Hello Gibsons! Great news. Sandra Winters and I believe George Kephart have both talked about doing a group pick up for people in the immediate area of George’s place.

I can see a little sun poking out, and I hear the sound of songbirds. Spring is coming!

      Jen
